Struggling to keep your home warm? You may qualify for free installation of energy-efficient measures like insulation through the Nest scheme. If you are on a low income, this could include a free boiler, central heating system, or insulation to help retain heat and reduce your annual energy bills. You could be eligible for free energy-efficient measures if:

• You own your home or rent from a private landlord (not a local council or Housing Association).
• Your home is inefficient, leading to high heating costs.
• You or someone in your household receives a means-tested benefit or has a chronic respiratory, circulatory, or mental health condition with income below defined thresholds.

If eligible, you’ll receive recommended energy-efficient insulation measures at no cost, ensuring your home stays warmer and saves you money. Note that Nest only approves applications for residential properties, and the property should not have been used for business purposes in the past 12 months.

Eligibility for Nest Insulation Grants in Wales:

Means-tested benefits eligible for Nest insulation grants include:

• Child Tax Credit (income under £16,105 per year)
• Working Tax Credit (income below £16,105 per year)
• Universal Credit (UC)
• Pension Credit
• Income Support (IS)
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
• Housing Benefit
• Council Tax Reduction (exemption and discount alone won’t qualify)

Health Eligibility Criteria:

In addition to means-tested benefits, health criteria for free insulation grants in Wales include:

• Living with chronic respiratory, circulatory, or mental health conditions.
• Income below scheme-defined thresholds.

Evidence of Health Condition:

You’ll need to provide proof of your health condition, such as prescriptions, medication packaging, treatment plans, or GP/hospital appointment or referral letters, when applying for free insulation funding. Assessors will verify this evidence during their property visit if you qualify for a grant.

Increased Income Threshold:

Residents at higher risk during winter, such as those aged 75+, families with children under 5, and people with disabilities impacting daily activities, may qualify with an income threshold of £21,352 after housing costs and savings under £16,000 for older individuals.

Proof of Extra Income Threshold:

Alongside health condition evidence, eligibility for the higher income threshold can be shown with a discretionary/disabled bus pass, blue badge, or registration under section 18 of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, confirmed by assessors during home visits.
